Bali inspired green juice
In June 2017… I ventured to the famed Island of the Gods and participated in my first ever yoga retreat. We were at the divine Komune Wellness Resort at Keramus Beach, in Bali and from day 1, I vowed I’d be back - although I didn’t realise at the time it would be to host my own retreat! If Bali is the island of the gods, then this is their rejuvenation space. It was such an incredibly beautiful place, and life affirming experience. Those 5 days changed many things for me, including setting me on the path to becoming a Yoga Instructor and certified Nutrition Coach.
One of the highlights of the retreat was the food. OMG the food!! Incredible!
Fresh, healthy food - they grow as much as they can onsite and source anything they can’t from local farmers who follow sustainable practices - mouth watering and served up to us by their award-winning kitchens every day (voted top 5 in Asia no less!).
By day two we were hooked on the daily smoothie or juice after our morning yoga practice and to be honest, I’ve been addicted to whole food juice options ever since. Given it would be selfish not to share...here is a Komune inspired green juice.
This juice blend is the ultimate way to start the day – refreshing, rejuvenating and packed with nutrients. So, get out your blender, use the whole fruit or veg - skin and all - and get your juice on! And even better - think about experiencing this and all of the other incredible offerings of Komune Resort with us on Retreat in May 2024.
Bali Inspired Green Juice
Start with half a cucumber cut into chunks and throw it into the blender…
Cucumber is an amazing addition to your diet, containing multiple B vitamins (B1, B5 & B7- Biotin). B vitamins are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress. Cucumbers are also rich in two of the most basic elements of digestion – water and fibre.
Add two handfuls of spinach
Spinach has an extremely high nutritional value and is rich in antioxidants. It’s a good source of vitamin A, B2, C and K, and also contains magnesium, manganese, folate, iron, calcium and potassium. Spinach has been found to boost eye health and has strong anti-aging properties.
Now add a small handful of mint
Mint is a calming and soothing herb that has been used for thousands of years to aid with upset stomach and indigestion. Mint is thought to increase bile secretion and encourage bile flow, which helps to speed and ease digestion.
Throw in a teaspoon (or more to taste) of Turmeric
Turmeric contains bioactive compounds such as curcumin – a natural anti-inflammatory compound. Turmeric dramatically increases the antioxidant capacity of your body.
Lastly, add 250ml of filtered water…..and blend away.
Now close your eyes, sit back and imagine the warm breeze on your skin as you enjoy your juice after and early yoga session at the Beach Shala as the sun rises over the Mt Agung volcano. We will see you there…. Namaste x
